Everything is Awesome, For Barack Obama

Earlier this month while visiting Monticello with a French delegation that included socialist President François Hollande, President Obama was caught in a moment joking about breaking protocol to view the grounds, quipping, “That’s the good thing as a President, I can do whatever I want.” Forget the enormity of the irony; an American President joking at Thomas Jefferson’s home that rules don’t apply to him and give Obama the benefit of the doubt that this was just a casual line.

It was no different than a line Michael Douglas would say in The American President or Kevin Kline in Dave or Martin Sheen in The West Wing, and that’s exactly the point. Obama has become a President of good lines from movies but unable to act like a very real leader.

The reason for the uproar over comments like this from this President is because he never wastes an opportunity to show just how right the absurdness of the social media noise machine is. When Obama jokes about being able to do whatever he wants, then turns around and hits an HBO producer up at a State Dinner for advanced copies of television shows to get him through an extended weekend, how are we as a desperate electorate supposed to react? We tolerate the luxuries afforded to our leaders. Just don’t be a dick about it.

How is a world currently engulfed in flames of revolution supposed to react?

The problem for a President who makes any excuse to hit up a golf course or admits to watching tons of HBO?is there are still events in the world happening outside his windows. People are desperate for American leadership and can’t wait for the killer on True Detective to be revealed.

Nobody in Kiev is interested in the fallout of the Red Wedding.

Nobody in Venezuela cares about the fate of Zoe Barnes.

Obama and his administration can’t wait to inject themselves into pop culture as it suits their narratives. If Lego Movie is number one at the box office, the Secretary of State is referencing global warming to 3D movies. If the Super Bowl is trending on social media, out come the football analogies. Michelle Obama is on Jimmy Fallon’s new Tonight Show and Joe Biden on Seth Meyer’s follow up. Actors pushing health care that they themselves refuse to sign up for. What message does it send the world when cries for democracy in Ukraine and Venezuela are met with silence, but tweeting about a cable show is paramount?

house of cardsBarack Obama is the first President optimized for SEO and therein lies the problem. When #Venezuela and #Kiev are the top trends on Twitter for two days straight and not #HouseOfCards or #TrueDetective, the online persona machine that elected Barack Obama goes dark and resorts to a spam account selling us crappy insurance.

At the height of violence that erupted with both protests this past weekend, where was he? Hosting a Hollywood premiere style party for #GeorgeClooney and cast of his film #TheMonumentsMen, in private at the White House, simply because he could. Right now in Kiev, historical statues and art are being burned in front of the world. He was content to remain silent and watch a movie about it happening instead. The real world does not interest this President. The set design does.

@BarackObama (an account run by these people) can tweet about House of Cards Spoilers but can’t be bothered to tweet a statement condemning violence from the regimes in Kiev and Venezuela and sign it -bo. Meanwhile millions of people globally are captivated by the live streams and Hugoesque images of revolution.

If Barack Obama is going to be a viral President, he can’t simply sit out the events of the world as he chooses. The coming out announcement of a former college and future NFL football star cannot outweigh events that have captivated the entire world for two days and cost people their blood and lives.

The same goes for his complex of dying network media defenders. If Occupy Wall St. and their twisted logic deserve prime time coverage by NBC, CBS and ABC, why not pro democracy rallies happening simultaneously in two different corners of the world? Instead, we’re stuck with Sunday morning show hosts drooling over Kevin Spacey. The networks become no different than the governments of those nations instituting blackouts. The desperate attempt to remain relevant and cool is accompanied now by a heavy vacuum of leadership in exactly the one country on the Earth it can’t have one in.

This is the eventual dilemma with electing a President under the superstar celebrity, media driven premise that Barack Obama was. Remember in 2008, this was not about electing another American politician to the Presidency. This was a citizen of the world, drawing outdoor crowds of over 70,000 people. This was a transcendence, not an election.

Oprah cried.

Obama in berlinCandidate Obama stepped up in front of the world and told us that this was the time we all began to heal. All over the world the same nations that yesterday believed this mysterious Kryptonian figure, now ignore him for the thrill of a molotov cocktail. Nations all over the world have rejected his movie speeches of peace and prosperity for his more clear, instinctual desires of social upheaval.

Why is this President, elected because of a hope he promised in front of the world, so content to sit it out instead?

Is he bored? Does massive public upheaval not interest him if it does not serve his political ends? Does it remind him that everything is in fact, not awesome?

I wrote about this very thing?last August when riots escalated in Egypt and the Administration’s top officials were all on vacation except for Joe Biden, who was talking to a camel. I’m forced to raise it again because of the current calamities in the Ukraine and Venezuela and here the country is once again forced to reconcile a disinterested President, completely unengaged with the moment as it unfolds in front of the rest of us. Instead he’s focusing on the weather, truck fuel and George Clooney.

Once again, on opposite sides of the globe thousands of people took to the streets of their respective nations demanding change from the heavy handed governments they have been suffering under. Right between these two uprisings sits the United States, with a historical American President who has a Nobel Peace Prize sitting on his mantle collecting dust.

And he’s watching HBO.

Railing on about growing income inequality one day, while the next hosting a lavish State Dinner for an open socialist. Two men committed to taxing the success right out of their countries while celebrating their own in luxury, all while our media commanding us to #BOWDOWN?to the queen. Optics matter.

Flying to California to blame a drought on Global Warming right before spending the entire afternoon golfing in it, while also using a separate airliner to fly bills for him to sign, matters.

Remaining silent on casualties of uprisings not aligned with our President’s personal philosophies, matters. Thousands of people right now in Venezuela and Kiev are risking their lives – 140 characters at a time.

Barack Obama uses his Twitter account to talk about magnets.

His personal statement on Kiev finally came yesterday while visiting Mexico, warning the Ukrainian Government, “There will be consequences if people step over the line.” Four days after the violence had reached a zenith, resulting in the reported deaths of 25 people in Kiev and 9 in Venezuela.

What line exactly is left to be crossed Mr. President?

He’s content to ride the worst of these situations out until the very end when he issues his stern warning and then can claim credit for tempering the situation. Until then, hey Girls is on!

If these examples seem absurd, it’s because they are and no one should have to be making them, but over and over again, we are. Barack Obama went in front of the world and told it that he would heal it. Six years later, there is not a single corner of the Earth that is better off than when he spoke those words.

Not even Winterfell.

Playing Through: Obama’s Foreign Policy Failures Culminate in Egypt

I never planned on doing a feature on Egypt’s uprising as it relates to Barack Obama. But that’s just the thing…Events occur in the world that sometimes force unplanned schedule changes. This rule applies for most people in every day aspect of their lives. But not for Barack Obama. Last Tuesday, Cairo erupted in a hail of gunfire displayed on live streams and beamed out across the world. Complete chaos, over 700 people dead and still rising. While Barack Obama bravely soldiered on with his family holiday and August residential golf tour, The White House PR team in all their wisdom thought the first thing they would release was a “Guess what day it is” Geico insurance joke image on Twitter featuring Joe Biden talking to a camel. On the same day that Obama delivered a vague brief statement on the violence in Egypt. John Kerry, the Secretary of State was busy kite boarding. The message to the world from The United States was loud and clear. Handle your own problems.

We’re on vacation.

Barack Obama made history last week. He managed to fit two separate vacations under one international terror threat. While our embassies and country remained on high alert, Obama golfed on his Birthday. He then departed for Martha’s Vineyard after an impromptu press conference and then managed to golf some more before the terror threat was lifted. Network and Liberal media continue to maintain the administration’s line that all Presidents vacation and are entitled to it. But the attitude of this administration is unlike others in recent memory. Aloof, distant, closed off and content to sit the events of the world out…Much like the man in charge of it.

Embassies across the region and world were abandoned due to an imminent, international terror threat, stemming from a series of alarming prison breaks that Obama and our media barely shrugged at. This was a threat so dire the media told us, that Barack Obama? could not be bothered to be pulled away from his golf clubs, twice.

This President’s foreign policy began much like every other failure since .. Give a speech, use some sort of novelty item or slick marketing gimmick and hope it sticks in pop culture. The problem is the world is filled with dangerous extremists that don’t care about an appearance with Jay Leno. At the start of his Presidency he sent Hillary Clinton to Russia with a mislabeled Staples button and some how thought this would solve the ills of an eroding relationship. It was laughable and insulting and Russia knew it. Right there Vladimir Putin became Ivan Drago standing there unnerved as he watched President Apollo Creed Obama in a big US Flag hat and fireworks show dance around him unseriously. Now Russia finds themselves in possession of Edward Snowden, his laptops and with it tons of international leverage. It’s an embarrassment that a low level intelligence analyst could hog tie the President of the United States and do it all from the floor of an airport in the middle of Moscow.

Barack Obama’s only response to Russia and Vladimir Putin was to cancel a summit and tell him to leave the gays alone. He is riding the fence with his opinion of Edward Snowden until he poll tests our opinion of him. Obama will not jeopardize his image as Cool Parent-In-Chief when 60% of the country views Snowden as a heroic whistle blower and not an evil Bond villain especially when Julian Assange and his wannabe hacker army of hot pocket basement dwellers are now fully endorsing a Republican in 2016. The timing will be ripe for him to pull his Presidential Pardon card for Edward Snowden and walk out of office a hero to every 4Chan message board call center worker in their Guy Fawkes mask.

But like with everything else regarding this President, there is a deep chasm between what he says and the actions he takes. He stated on The Tonight Show earlier this month in a brilliant stroke of political fence riding, that he’s still unsure of what crimes Snowden had actually committed. Odd considering his Justice Department is not confused. Obama managed to once again detach himself from his own administration in front of the clapping lemmings whose audience he seeks the most. Obama said previously in July that he had no plans to scramble jets to chase a hacker. Not many people disagree with that assessment but the question has to be asked…What does this President scramble jets for?

He didn’t scramble jets to help stranded diplomats in Benghazi. He doesn’t seem interested in scrambling jets to put an end to the longest war this nation has ever seen. His media lapdogs seem uninterested in pressuring him to do so, despite the fact that 2/3 of all casualties in Afghanistan have come in only 4 years under Obama. Obama has convinced the American people and the fervent Anti War Left that somehow these staggering numbers make him a more competent President than George W. Bush.

The only situation that he has scrambled jets for was handing them over to an Egyptian army of whose intent, we as a country and him as a President, are still unsure of with regards to their motives. And that’s the problem. The United States feels very much in the dark and unengaged with this President in charge.

Drone strike in Yemen, a nation we have not declared war on?  Don’t worry about it. Drone strike on an American citizen over seas? Don’t worry about it. Have your birth control and stop asking questions. Barack Obama’s only foreign strategy has been to rain fire from above with unmanned death machines. The very things George W. Bush was accused of daily over the course of five years, Barack Obama? is actually doing.

The Obama doctrine as it relates to foreign policy has fallen apart, if there ever was one to begin with (Paging Charlie Gibson). This is a President whom in 2008 made a large focus of his campaign to be more respected and more loved in the world. Is there any policy wonk that can seriously look at the state of our relationship with the Arab world overseas and make the argument that Barack Obama has healed the planet as promised? Is our relationship with Russia any better since the national media laughed at George W. Bush for looking into Putin’s eyes and seeing his soul? ?It’s almost as if knocking on doors in a twenty square block radius of south side Chicago never prepared this President for the rigors, and maneuvering needed to balance and delegate with unstable nations and dictators as the world’s only real free super power. This is a President who agreed to talks with the Taliban, after they shot 14 year old Malala Yousafzai in the head, for risking everything that Hillary Clinton sat back and took credit for.

Obama not only went around this country slamming George W. Bush for Iraq and Afghanistan unchallenged, he went overseas to Berlin and did so in front of the world. His pick as Joe Biden in 2008 as his VP to be was hailed as a brilliant move that would shore up his international diplomacy inexperience. Have we seen Joe Biden ride to the rescue of a single international crisis? No. Not once. Biden has been almost completely mute on the events in the Middle East and even more so on the events in Benghazi. He did tell tall and grand tales about his boss at the 2012 DNC Convention but then again this was the same genius that suggested breaking Iraq up into three separate?countries like foreign policy is the recess equivalent?to separating fighting kids on a playground. Joe Biden talking to a camel was the first Tweet sent from the White House account the morning of the masacre in Egypt. Were they not aware of the situation? Or is The White House Twitter account just another novelty play thing?

What is most striking in any of this has been how Obama’s attempts to completely reshape the Middle East has gone ignored by the same media that crucified Geore W. Bush. They methodically dissected?Bush for sacrificing lives and legacy to plant a blooming democracy dead square in the middle of the Arab world with Iraq. Bush vowed to not leave until that mission was accomplished despite objections from loud voices on the left…One in particular

In 2011, Obama took before microphones and demanded that despot after despot after despot step down from power. In Libya, Tunisia and Egypt, Barack Obama either encouraged anti government protests or called on leaders to step aside altogether. John Kerry has backed anti government protests in Turkey. Obama and his administration spent the good part of his first term calling for revolutions in front of the same adoring microphones and cameras that got him elected. ?As if a magical wave of Obama Dust swept over the Middle East, people suddenly rose up to oppose dictators and as he typically does, he both tried to claim credit and distance himself at the same time. This was not by coincidence. These were tactical and organized rallies. The question is, organized by whom? Bashar al-Assad?has remained remarkably stubborn and called Obama’s bluff on his own “red line”. The world now knows this is not a serious President.

The Muslim Brotherhood is becoming ashes before the world’s eyes right now in Cairo and do we know which side of this bloodshed The United States stands on? Is it Obama’s endorsed Muslim Brotherhood, currently out numbered and out gunned or is it Egypt’s military, currently executing the slaughter and whom we have pledged millions in aide to. The interim President of Egypt stepped down as violence escalated and there was John Kerry on his kite board. Is it too much to ask that our President and his appointees at least pretend to look like they give a shit?

Obama did manage a vacation time-out to scold Egypt’s violence and announce that we could no longer play nice together, even though Obama’s grounding of the Egypt military was not a punishment that suddenly sprang up from last week’s events. This is a degree of punishment that is nothing more than show. Obama then folded up his notes and retreated back to the golf course, not allowing his personal travelling circus to question him once about further aide to Egypt or that tensions with Israel may be growing. This President is either willingly incompetent and inexperienced or unwillingly naive and undetermined. None of those things bode well for any relationship with nations now in upheaval at his encouragement or allies he has alienated with his indecisiveness.

The Obama Administration’s relationship with Israel is contentious at best. ?All one has to do is view a map of the region and color in the nation’s filled with insurrection that Obama has either openly supported with US financial aide, or verbally endorsed to understand why Israel might have hesitation and skepticism of Obama’s true intentions. Barack Obama is backing our most loyal ally into a corner by calling for upheavals in almost every powerful nation that borders it.

It’s no secret that the elitist left wing of this country, led by this President, wants a sponsored Palestinian state. In diplomatic talks, our State Department insists on conditions for Israel, namely the return to pre 1967 borders, but none for the Palestinians.

Israel could not only be facing a hostile Palestine, but a hostile Palestine now backed by unstable neighboring nations all financed and endorsed by The United States. Is this Barack Obama’s ultimate motive in calling for multiple regime changes? Maybe. What’s more disconcerting?is that nobody actually knows beyond what Obama tells the cameras. It’s auspicious that every country Barack Obama has encouraged regime change happens to surround our strongest ally in the region and that every opposition to those regimes is led by an organization calling for its demise. Career journalists have certainly never bothered to ask this President what his world view is and while they try to form their own narrative to what it possibly could be, Israel grows more distant as does worldwide confidence in our abilities to set the international narrative.

Just last week, Obama’s former “Body Man” Reggie Love revealed that during the raid when Navy Seals were risking their lives to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden, that he, Pete Souza, Marvin Nicholson?and the President were playing games of Spades in the White House dining room. This revelation was stunning and proves the exact kind of casual posture to events that many objectors already suspected. It was not revealed when during the raid this occurred or for how long. Irregardless it leaves an already suspect impression that this is a President who is completely disinterested with the task at hand. There was more at stake than Osama Bin Laden’s head. US Navy Seals were flying into a sovereign?country with strained ties without notifying their government or military under cover of darkness. Had they been detected, or a Blackhawk carrying a team had to land in Pakistani territory, or the Military had been alerted to the raid in progress at the Bin Laden compound…What then? Was someone actually expected to retrieve Barack Obama from playing cards?

It is this exact kind of detached lack of leadership which fuels Americans with so many questions regarding Barack Obama’s whereabouts and more importantly commands he either gave or did not give on the night of September 11th, 2012 when a United States Consulate came under heavy artillery fire. Questions to this day that go unanswered. I have asked repeatedly on Twitter for national reporters and journalists to name a single order our President gave that night, just one. I have never gotten a response and to this date we don’t have one. It’s inexcusable.

This is a President content on letting the world hatch out their own fights after egging them on and then hopefully when the blood stops spilling, pick up the phone and call whatever unstable regime has taken charge and congratulate them. Unfortunately the participants of these regimes have far more at stake then getting applause from late night variety show audiences and may have even more sinister motives.

Last September 11th Embassies burned & Ambassadors were dragged smoldering through the streets of Benghazi. Rioters scaled consulate walls in Egypt and Tweets were being deleted. All over the region as Al Qaeda operatives lowered and burned the American Flag while raising their own on US territory, there was one large Arab nation of note not participating in these demonstrations and terrorist attacks against the United States – Iraq.
